YELLOWKNIFE - A fire destroyed a home and storage building approximately 27-kilometers northwest of Yellowknife, near Highway 3, late Saturday.

Deputy fire chief Darcy Hernblad said a neighbour spotted the burning building and relayed the message to a passing car, who then reported it to the RCMP.

Hernblad said dispatch was alerted to the fire at roughly 11 p.m. and stayed on scene for about three hours.

No one was in either building at the time of the fire and it is being called suspicious in nature. Hernblad said by the time the fire crews got on scene they could only try to stop the fire from spreading to any of the surrounding area.

No injuries were reported and names of the building owners have not been released.
