Sex offender turned himself in

Northern News Services

Yellowknife (June 02/04) - After going AWOL for five days, a paroled sex offender turned himself in to authorities a few hours after police went public with his status.

Albert Douglas Casaway skipped a parole appointment nearly two weeks ago, prompting police to send a news release to media outlets asking for the public's help to locate him. Shortly after the release was read on a local radio station May 26, Casaway turned himself into authorities without incident said Egan Day, Acting Area Director for NWT Parole Services.

As a result of missing his parole appointment, Casaway's parole was suspended and officials will decide whether or not to revoke it completely, said Day.

When Yellowknifer checked with police May 27, RCMP told the newspaper that Casaway had not been found.
