Iqaluit (June 21/04) - Jason Kilabuk of Iqaluit is facing two charges following an armed stand off with the RCMP last week.

The 20-year-old was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm and careless use of a firearm.

The incident occurred on June 13 when the RCMP received reports of gun shots at 1 a.m. in the 100 block.

Police closed off the area, which included several blocks.

To ensure safety, some residents were taken to the Elders Centre.

Police negotiators were called in to help resolve the stand-off. After three hours, the two people in the house surrendered to police without incident.

RCMP say the matter is still under investigation.
