Yellowknife (June 16/04) - BHP was the winner in the 38th Annual Territorial Mine Rescue Competition while Diavik came in second.

"It was a very tight event. Three of the events were closely contested with only one point difference between teams, so it was very close," said mine rescue competition co-ordinator Dave Arthur.

"The level of competition was good and it encourages the teams to keep their skill levels honed throughout the year," said Arthur.

The competition, hosted by WCB, runs side by side with the annual NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines picnic. The picnic went very well, said Cheryl Wourms, office manager for the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines.

"We fed close to 2,000 people. We had four teams enter the Prospectors Challenge. One team, the Yellowknifer team, actually went for a swim after capsizing the canoe," said Wourms.
